Are you planning a solo vacation? Looking for places to go by yourself? Then you should definitely consider Montreal, Boston, Bali, Prague and Krakow. Why these particular destinations? Read this article to find out!
Our 5 Best Solo Travel Destinations
Safety, vibrant cultures, and many tourist attractions define the best places for solo travelers. But which exact destinations meet these criteria and why? Where to travel alone? Here’s our personal ranking!
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Montreal is a wonderful Canadian gem known for its multiple tourist attractions, safety, and old architecture. It is a city with a true soul, a perfect place to go by yourself for the first time. What is the city known for?
- Old Montréal—It might not date back as far as old towns in Europe, but Old Montréal has its charm. Orange 17th-century architecture, cobblestone streets, and numerous street performances make a visit to this particular part of the city a must.
- Mount Royal—This place gives you a wonderful view of the whole city, but it’s also pretty itself, as expected—Mount Royal was designed by the same architect (Frederick Law Olmsted) who planned New York’s Central Park. It might take a few (hundred) steps to get to the top of it, but it’s really worth it.
- Cuisine—Smoked-meat sandwiches, bagels, and rise kombucha are just some of the mouth watering treats awaiting you in Montreal.
Boston, Massachusetts, US
If you are looking for a solo travel destination in the US, we can recommend Boston. It’s a safe city with a plethora of attractions for solo travelers or slow travelers. What do we recommend there?
- The Freedom Trail—A great walk through the history of the US.
- Fenway Park—You mustn’t miss the Red Sox baseball stadium!
- Boston Ghosts and Gravestones Tour—A great tour around Boston Harbor.
Bali, Indonesia
Bali might seem exotic, but it’s a safe travel destination, perfect for exploring on your own. What is more, it’s pretty affordable—that’s why digital nomads love it. What can you do in Bali?
- Take a surfing lesson.
- Join an Indonesian cooking class.
- Hike to the rim of Mount Batur—it’s an active volcano!
- Visit Bali’s most popular temples:
- Ulu watu, Tanah Lot, Goa Gajah.
Prague, Czech Republic
If you prefer a European escape, we can recommend Prague to you. This historic city is an excellent travel destination for solo travelers all year round, so it does not matter if you prefer summer or winter vacation. What’s worth seeing in Prague?
- The Prague Castle.
- National Museum.
- Charles Bridge.
- Old Town.
- John Lennon Wall.
- The Astronomical Clock (Prague Orloj).
Krakow, Poland
Finally, we recommend Krakow. Similarly to Prague, it’s a city worth visiting all year round. What’s more, it’s extremely safe if you stick to the typical tourist destinations (though do not try exploring the outskirts, since you could get into a less safe district). What’s worth seeing there?
- The Old Town.
- The Old Town Underground—It’s a museum where you can see the medieval Old Town since it was preserved under the current Market Square.
- Liban Quarry—It’s an old quarry worth seeing, especially since the movie Schindler’s List was shot there.
