The pavilion itself is a striking structure that frames the view with unusual elegance for a city park, and the elevation advantage means you're looking over the lower Capitol Hill rooftops with clean sightlines to the skyline. The park's history adds a layer that most visitors don't know: Cheesman was Denver's first cemetery, established as Mount Prospect Cemetery in the 1800s. When the cemetery closed in 1893, the bodies were supposedly relocated, but many weren't. The park also connects directly to the Denver Botanic Gardens on its eastern edge, making a combined visit easy. Practical note: the park is best visited in daylight; the atmosphere changes significantly after dark. Pic: Rocky Mountain PBS
